When building a football field, it is beneficial to know all the costs involved. Next, actually building the stand, installing and maintaining the lights are some of the most important factors. Stadium lights and electricity to light them during games have been the most expensive ongoing cost of a stadium. At the GT Grandstand we are not responsible for the installation of lights, but we would like to do some financial calculations to help you make the best decisions when building your sports facility.

Factors that affect the total cost of a lighting installation include the quality and type of floodlights, the energy required on a daily basis, and the average cost of those energy sources. For example, a typical high school football field requires 300 to 400 lux to illuminate effectively. If you use metal halide lamps you will need 70,000 watts to produce 300 to 400 lux, or if you use LED floodlights you will only need 35,000 watts.

Electrical costs

In the US, a kilowatt per hour costs an average of 12 cents. If we wanted the stadium lights to run 15 nights a month, for 4 hours per night, the equation would be 70000*0.12/1000 for metal halide lights and 35000*0.12/1000 for LED lights. Electricity rates for metal halide lamps are $8.40 per hour, and LED lights are $4.20 per hour. If you turn on the lights 15 nights a month for 6 hours per night, then metal halide lights will cost $756 per month and LED lights will cost $378 per month.

Maintenance Costs & Installation Costs

When comparing the lifetime maintenance costs of metal halide lamps and LED lamps, LED lamps easily lead the way. The lifespan of LED lamps is 8 times that of metal halide lamps. This lifespan can save you a ton of money when changing lights is expensive.

For an average high school stadium, depending on the quality of the light, the cost of installing lighting equipment is between 100,000 and 300,000. If you’re replacing stadium lights every few years, the total cost starts to add up.

This is one of the reasons why we encourage our customers to invest in LED lights, which initially cost a little more but will save you hundreds of thousands of dollars in the long run. When comparing lifespans, LED lamps have a lifespan of 20 years, while metal halide lamps have a lifespan of 2-3 years. They also cost half as much electricity per hour. It will cost more to buy and install LED lights ($200,000 to $300,000 for a high school football field), but you’ll save more on electricity and maintenance costs in the long run. Reasons for choosing led stadium lights for sports stadiums

Sports is one of the indispensable activities in our lives, and LED stadium lighting is particularly important. If you are the owner of a sports club, it is important to choose the right sports lighting for your stadium. These stadium lights are designed to increase visibility by emitting light similar to natural sunlight.

Led stadium lighting has a huge impact on athletes. Led stadium lights are designed differently for indoor and outdoor stadium applications. A good lighting environment will set up anti-glare and scientific lighting design to ensure that there will be no harsh light anywhere during exercise. Our goal in choosing stadium lighting is to improve the quality of the stadium and ensure that maintenance costs are always within budget.

Since it is an efficient lighting solution, LED sports lights are ideal for stadium applications. Led Stadium Lights provide safe, high-quality lighting to ensure a good experience for fans. The light produced by these led stadium lights is similar to natural sunlight. This is both safe and clear for the player.

Led stadium lights last a long time and are energy efficient. LED stadium lights can be used to replace metal halide or high pressure sodium lamps. You need to know the wattage of your conference lighting. However, with LED sports lights, you have to pay attention to lumens. You can see led stadium lights are used to replace old lights.

High safety

LED stadium lighting is safer. Because they do not contain mercury and do not emit UV rays that are harmful to the skin and the environment, led stadium lights are more environmentally friendly. This lighting solution reduces pollution and does not contain any harmful substances

.

Longer life span

Led sports lighting is rugged and durable. It lasts 6 times longer than traditional lighting. Led sport lights can last up to 100,000 hours. That’s 5-12 times the life span of other lamps.

Brightness level

Led sports lights provide even light, ideal for improving visibility for players, fans and referees. The anti-glare effect of led sports lights is the best. Led sports lights are designed to be brighter and less expensive than traditional lighting. LEDs also have a wide range of color temperatures, typically from 2200K to 6000K (from “warm” yellow to bright or “cool” blue).

Low Maintenance

Another reason to choose led sports lights is the low maintenance cost. It can be used for 50,000 hours, so you don’t need to replace it often. You can save a lot of maintenance and labor.

Things to Consider Before Choosing LED Stadium Lights

When you are in the market for LED sports lights, there are many factors you need to consider. Here are some parameters you should consider when buying a light fixture.

Lumens

The first thing you need to look at is lumens. People think that watts are an indication of brightness levels. This is a big misconception. Wattage is the energy used by light. and lumens are required to determine the brightness level.

Installation Type

LED floodlights are common in sports lighting. So another thing you need to consider is the type of installation. For outdoor sports venues, we can choose LED lights with poles, and for indoor sports venues, we can choose hanging or pole-mounted lights according to the height of the venue

Anti-glare settings.

LED lights can help players see more clearly and reduce glare. It is ideal for reducing glare. That’s because it’s great for reducing glare. To reduce the impact of LED lights on players, it is recommended to purchase lights with acrylic optical lenses

Beam Angle

Beam angle is another important consideration when installing LED lights. The lighting of the sports field must provide uniform and bright light. Beam angle is an important consideration when purchasing LED sports field lights. The standard beam for a 40-80 foot lamp is 30 degrees. Some led stadium lights require beam angles of 15, 30 or 60 degrees.

Knowing the beam width is easier than knowing the distance.

Beam angle x 0.018 x distance from lamp = beam width

Calculate the beam width from 10 feet away if you have a 100-degree floodlight.

100 degrees x 0.018 x 10 feet = 18 feet wide

Led stadium lights shapes

Led stadium lights come in a variety of shapes. The two most widely used light conditions are round lights and snakehead lights. Cobra headlights are ideal light sources for narrow beams.

Stadiums and arenas use efficient, high wattage lamps

Most stadiums and indoor arenas use high-intensity discharge (HID) lights for nearly all overhead lighting needs. On average, stadium lights have higher wattages than other outdoor lighting applications such as billboards, roads, and parking lots. While HID lights are very efficient, they take a lot of time to warm up and reach full brightness after going out. That feature caused a delay in last Sunday’s Super Bowl game after a power outage caused some lighting at the Superdome to go out

According to a 2012 U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) study, 17% of all lighting energy consumption in the United States is used outdoors, and 83% of outdoor lighting consumption comes from HID lamps. Unlike other widely used lighting types, HID lamps are generally limited to outdoor, warehouse, and industrial use because of their high levels of light output.

For example, a 60-watt incandescent lamp (or an equivalent compact fluorescent lamp that uses only 14 watts) will produce about 800 lumens of light output per lamp. Most residential and commercial applications only need to provide brightness levels of about 800 to 4000 lumens per lamp, but HID lamps can provide more than 15,000 lumens per lamp, making them suitable for large areas such as stadiums, factories and warehouses where a lot of lighting is required . Other lighting types, such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs), incandescent and halogen lamps, are used for signaling, signage and other general lighting applications.

High-intensity light output requires a lot of energy. But from a lumen/watt perspective, HID lamps are about as efficient as other lighting types, if not higher. As shown in the image below, HID lamps provide 75 lumens of light per watt, which makes them more efficient than some other lighting types that are also used in outdoor applications.

One disadvantage of high intensity discharge lamps is their long warm-up and playback time. Millions of viewers witnessed a 34-minute power outage during last Sunday’s Super Bowl. The New Orleans Superdome uses metal halide lamps, a type of HID lamps, as the arena’s primary dome light. After a Super Bowl power outage, it will take a few minutes for power to be restored, then longer to restart, or to reach full brightness after going out. Due to the way the bulbs work, the restart time is usually longer than the initial warm-up time, taking 5-20 minutes to reach 90% brightness. According to research from the Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, some types of metal halide HID lamps use different starting mechanisms that can reduce warm-up time to 1-4 minutes and restart time to 2-8 minutes.
